Permissible Stresses in R.C. Columns
As a result of experiment all the codes recommend reduction of stresses in concrete as well as in R.C. columns.
As per revised Indian Standard Code of Practice IS:456-1964, the Permissible Stresses for various grades of concrete and for various types of steel reinforcement to be adopted in columns are given bleow.

Permissible Stresses in steel
1. For columns bars in compression= 1300 kg/sq. cm.
2. For helical reinforcement in column=1000 kg/sq. cm.
